chickens and sheep
Chicken and Sheep is an exhibition based on the topic of visual problem solving. Each artist was provided with the same story problem. Samantha has chicken and sheep on her farm. Each chicken has 2 legs and each sheep has 4 legs. Each chicken has 1 head and each sheep has 1 head. She looked out one day and counted 48 animal heads and 134 legs. How many of each animal live on the farm?

Mathematically: 48 (heads) x 2 (legs) = 96 accounted for legs. That leaves 38 unaccounted for legs. Put two unaccounted for legs on each animal: divide 38 by 2, for 19. This makes 19 four-legged and 29 two-legged animals. You won’t get to the grill conclusion with this method though., 2020
